Jill Szwed
Weekend Meteorologist

Jill joined the 5 News and Weather team  in June 2014 as the Weekend Meteorologist, weekday Weather Producer, and Breaking News Reporter. She is excited to call the Mountain State her new home.
Jill grew up in Butler, PA, which is an hour north of Pittsburgh. Her love for the weather began when she studied it in her fifth grade science class. There were also many significant weather events that enhanced her passion, including a two-foot snowstorm that cancelled school for a week during her senior year of high school, a tornado that struck downtown Pittsburgh in 1998, and seeing pictures of herself as a toddler playing in the snow during the Blizzard of 1993.
She graduated from Saint Louis University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology and a minor in Communication. Jill was the Chief Meteorologist for the campus TV station, SLU-TV. She had the challenge of forecasting crazy Midwest weather that included major snowstorms, bitter cold and extreme heat, as well as severe weather outbreaks, which included multiple tornadoes. Jill was also an anchor, producer, and social media coordinator for SLU News 22.
Jill was the weather intern at KDKA at WPXI, both in Pittsburgh, during her summers off from college. She also had the opportunity to work with the weather team at KSDK in St. Louis.
If she is not forecasting the weather, Jill loves cheering on all the Pittsburgh sports teams (especially the Pirates and SLU Billiken basketball), dancing, being outdoors, cooking, baking, and trying new local restaurants. If you see her around town, don’t hesitate to say “hello.”
