Question: "What is the biggest mistake people make with their money?"
Answer: (John Halterman, Beacon Wealth Management) "I think people have wonderful intentions, but I also think that people just don't pay attention. When I say don't pay attention, they develop habits.
"Habits such as going to Starbucks everyday, going out to eat all the time. Unfortunately when you live a life of being reactive, and you develop bad habits, you end up spending a lot more money than what you ever intended. The next thing you know is you don't have money leftover to save.
"The one thing I can tell people is write down what you're spending. If you know what you're spending then you absolutely will know what you can save.
"I hate to say it but the big "B-word." That is you got to have some form of budget. So that you can get to the point to where you have great spending habits."
