BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WDTV) - Tim and Jade Meagher opened Meagher's Irish Pub in 2014. The restaurant serves Irish-American fare, as well as a variety of craft beers and whiskey.
The beer-battered cod comes with salt and pepper fries and an herb tartar sauce.
"It's all local," said Meagher's general manager Cato Caton, "we use local beers, local produce and all local food."
The couple opened the restaurant to bring something new to the area, while staying true to their Irish roots and their love of food.
"I'd say our theme is fresh food, good times, and friends and family," Caton said.
Today, I got to try some of Meagher's best dishes.
The first dish I had was the Irish Reuben. The sandwich comes with corned beef, cabbage slaw, Swiss cheese, and a Marie Rose dressing on marbled rye bread.
Next, I had the Mac N Cheese. Meagher's was recently ranked by 'Best Things West Virginia' as one of the top 10 places in the state to get macaroni and cheese.
Finally, I had a classic plate of fish and chips. Meagher's fish and chips is one of their most popular dishes and comes with beer-battered cod, salt and pepper fries, and an herb tartar sauce.
After sampling the food, I talked to some customers to find out what keeps them coming back.
"The environment is very good here and I've never been served anything bad," said Melissa Ruckle.
"I had the build-your-own-burger and a side of broccoli; it was fantastic," said Scott Davison.
He continued, "The meat is fresh and falls apart when you cut it with a fork; it's absolutely delicious and I would strongly recommend it."
