Warm weather can affect your pets

Bridgeport W. V.a.(WDTV)---- Warm weather in February is very unlikely but this past week has proven to be rare. And animals are seeing the brunt of it all and are highly affected b this weather change.

Local veterinarians are saying that all pets this year so far seem to be suffering from this unpredictable weather. With the sudden heighten weather temperatures fleas and ticks have had the chance to stay on the rise.

Clifford Dean a sales associate at Eastern Pet Supplies Outlet says this season will be a greater one for flea sales.

"Because of the lack of the colder temperatures during this season this is the season where normally the cold weather would help control the flea population for the next year at least some what. Because of how little freezing temperature we've actually received the fleas have had a longer period of time to escape into warmer locations into peoples houses. It's likely this season is going to be really bad so people should probably make sure to stay up on the flea and tick medication."

It's also important to start treating lawns and homes now for fleas and ticks.
