CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WDTV)-- It has been five years since the disappearance of Aliayah Lunsford and community members are starting to get some answers on just what happened five years ago.

"The one person who posses this knowledge of Aliayah's whereabouts is in police custody," said Sheriff Adam Gissy of the Lewis County Sheriff's Department.

It has been five years since the disappearance of Aliayah Lunsford and new details following the death have led to the arrest of Lena Marie Lunsford, the mother of the missing Lewis County toddler.

It was September 24, 2011 when Aliayah was reported missing. Law enforcement, first responders, and hundreds of volunteers searched throughout parts of Weston and on November 3, 2016, five years later Lena Lunsford was arrested on a charge of death of a parent by child abuse.

"The news is heartbreaking and to think that it happened right in our backyard is crazy." said one local.

Lunsford is being held on a $250,000 cash bail. As for the body of Aliayah, it has not been confirmed or denied if it has been found, but the investigation is still active.

Lena Lunsford is the only person charged in the case at this time. If you or someone you know has information on this case you are urged to call police.

"I want to give her a proper place to rest, so she's at piece she didn't deserve any of this."
