MOMSEVERYDAY -- Each year, more than 7,000 children are treated in emergency rooms for injuries that occurred while they were alone or around a vehicle. According to Safe Kids Worldwide, many of these preventable injuries happen when drivers are unaware kids are nearby.
Here are some top tips for driveway safety from Safe Kids:
-Before you get into your car, walk all the way around it to make sure there are no children around.
-Designate a safe place for children to wait when there are cars about to move.
-Teach your children to make eye contact with the driver so they know that they’re there.
-Always accompany small children when they get in and out of cars. Hold their hand when they’re near cars, in parking lots and on sidewalks.
Teach your children from a young age never play near a vehicle and make sure toys aren’t left in the driveway.
