BBB issues warning about rustic furniture store

CANTON, OHIO (WDTV) -- Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about a Missouri based company they’ve received negative reports about.

The bureau says they have received multiple complaints, including from within West Virginia, about Rough Country Rustic Furniture.

The store manufactures rustic furniture and hand-crafted gun concealment. According to the BBB, they have received reports that the store “fails to deliver goods in a timely fashion and is lax in issuing refunds.”

The store has an “F” rating by the BBB and has been the topic of 209 complaints. The company markets their products on their website and Facebook.

The BBB says delivery time frames listed on the website are from “approximately 42-56 business days” for concealed compartment patriotic flags and to “approximately 84-140 days,” for larger items, such as bedroom sets.

In a press release, BBB president and CEO BBB serving Canton Region and Greater West Virginia Frank Cilona stated that though the company is behind on orders but continues to solicit and accept new ones.

"This business isn’t keeping up with its orders," Cilona stated. “It needs to be proactive in letting customers know when orders take longer than expected and follow through on refunds or take measures to ensure that delivery deadlines are met."

The BBB also says that when customers attempt to call a phone number listed on the store’s website, they reach a voice mailbox that is typically full. They say that when emails are sent, they receive an automated response from the company, saying to expect several days to pass before receiving an actual response. Some customers report never receiving a response.

The BBB is offering these tips to anyone interested in purchasing furniture online:

-Research the business and owners carefully before signing a contract, providing any sensitive personal information or paying any money. Go to www.bbb.org to search for BBB Business Profiles or find contact info for your local BBB.

-Pay by credit card whenever possible in case you need to challenge the payment for non-delivery of the product.

-Read all terms and conditions carefully before completing a purchase online. Make sure you read and understand return and refund policies. Know your options in case you receive an item that was not as advertised.

-Read online reviews from several sources to get a balanced view of customer experiences with a business.

-Don’t accept a professional-looking website or presence on social media as verification that a business is trustworthy. Make sure to check other sources like BBB.
