Bridgeport residents "Meet the Breeds"

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WDTV) - The Greater Clarksburg WV Kennel Club held their annual "Meet the Breeds" event this afternoon at the Bridgeport Farmers Market.

The event is aimed to educate the public on the different breeds of dogs, and stress the responsibilities that come with owning and breeding dogs. Owners of over 25 different breeds came out to show off their four-legged friends.

"What we're trying to do is make people responsible for the ownership of their dogs," said Treasurer Becky Conrad. "When you get a dog, it's for life; it's not something you give back to the shelter in six weeks because it pees on your floor."

Conrad explains that the dog owners at this event are used as informational tools to show prospective dog owners if the dog they want is compatible with their home and lifestyle.

"The owners will talk to the people about the breeds, about the specifics of the breeds, their characteristic, and whether it would fit in the home that you're trying to get a dog for," Conrad said. "All dogs don't fit in all different types of homes."

The Kennel club holds an annual dog show in Morgantown every year. This event was held to inform the public of the responsibilities and privileges that come with owning a dog.
