BUCKHANNON, W. Va. (WDTV) -- Buckhannon celebrated the 115th birthday of one of their natives today.
The town honored Jean Lee Latham on her birthday by dedicating a plaque at her childhood home. Latham was a children's author who received the Newberry Award for children's literature in 1955 with the book "Carry on Mr. Bowditch."
"With the Newberry Medal, she is one of West Virginia's most famous authors. It's amazing how many famous people came from Buckhannon and many folks in our community are completely unaware of that," said Mayor David McCauley.
If you want to see Latham's childhood home you can find it on South Kanawha street.
Buckhannon does plan on putting up more plaques in the upcoming year.
