Christmas Committee offers prizes to Philippi residents decorating homes

PHILIPPI, W.Va. (WDTV)-- Philippi residents who decorate the exterior of their homes this Christmas season are eligible to win of one of three monetary prizes recently announced by the Philippi Christmas Committee.

According to Philippi Mayor Phil Bowers, the Committee will award $300 to the first-place winner, $200 to the second-place winner, and $100 to the third-place winner. The contest is open to all residents within the City of Philippi.

Judging criteria includes a) unique design and creative use of lights and decorations, b) adherence to theme, c) display and placement of decorations, animated objects, etc., and d) overall presentation. Anonymous judges will determine the winners based upon “curb appeal” as viewed from the street only. Lighted decorations in windows that are visible from the street will be considered as part of the overall presentation.

Judges will view residential displays from December 4-15 with winners being announced December 23 from the Courthouse Square Gazebo after the downtown caroling that will take place that night.

Judges will visit all areas of Philippi and consider for prizes all residences that have exterior Christmas lights.
