City of Fairmont hosting Parade of Champions for FSU and FSHS

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WDTV) - The City of Fairmont is recognizing the accomplishments of the Fairmont Senior Boys and Girls Basketball teams for both winning the AA WV State Championship this season and the Fairmont State Men's Basketball Team for being the NCAA DII National Runner-Up with a Parade of Champions.

The parade will begin at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 29.

The parade route will go from the Fairmont Field House on Mary Lou Retton Drive onto Fairmont Avenue, turn onto 7th Street and then turn on Locust Avenue and will be ending on Fairmont State Campus.

The parade will only be traveling on the north side of Fairmont Avenue and will not take up the whole road. The south side of Fairmont Avenue will remain open and the north side will open as the parade moves up Fairmont Avenue, escorted by the Fairmont Police Department.

The same goes for 7th Street and Locust Avenue, the parade will only take up one lane and the flow of traffic will be minimally impacted.

Fairmont Senior will end their part of the parade at FSHS where they will then immediately begin a spaghetti dinner fundraiser to raise money for the players' state championship rings. Fairmont State will continue the route to Locust Avenue and turn on FSU campus.

Those wishing to come show their support for all three teams should be on the northbound side (Shop N Save side) of Fairmont Avenue and the southbound side (FSU side) of Locust Avenue. If you do not plan to attend, please just be aware of the parade taking place and avoid the area if possible we are going to try our best to move it along.
