Clearing clutter

MOMSEVERYDAY -- The holidays have a way of adding clutter to every room in the house, so there may be no better time than the present to streamline your stuff and get organized in the new year.

Each year, we acquire so many new things. So, if we’re not removing items, soon we’ll have stuffed cabinets and jammed drawers. Clearing clutter can immediately make your home look nicer and you feel better.

Start with an area of the house that really bothers you – maybe it’s your kitchen drawers or your bedroom closet. Then work your way room by room, deciding what can be donated, sold or thrown away.

Speaking of closets – if yours is packed with clothing, try the hanger trick. Each time you wear a piece of clothing, put it back on the hanger and hook it backward. After a year, you’ll be able to see which items you wore and which just hung there. Donate, sell or throw out each item you never wore.

You can also take the 12-12-12 challenge. Locate 12 items to throw away, 12 to donate and 12 to be returned to their proper home. Do this each month.

Finally, invest in some pretty baskets or containers to store away toys and other miscellaneous items.
