Fairmont man sentenced for staging accidents, filing false insurance claims

CLARKSBURG, W. Va (WDTV) - A Fairmont man has been sentenced to jail time for filing false insurance claims after staging a vehicle accident.

According to a press release from the United States Attorney's Office, 25-year-old Martin Stoneking pleaded guilty to one count of “Mail Fraud."

Stoneking admitted that between May and October of 2013, he participated in a staged vehicle accident, faked injuries from the said accident, and filed false insurance claims resulting in a $41,000 settlement. He was also been ordered to pay $152,603.64 in restitution.

The West Virginia Insurance Commission Office of Inspector General and the United States Postal Inspection Service investigated.
