UPDATE: Four killed in Harrison County accident

Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny confirmed four people died after the car they were in went over an embankment Tuesday night.

Matheny said the car was traveling south on US 19, just before the Meadowbrook interchange, when it veered off the roadway and hit a parked car in a parking lot. The car then went over the embankment.

The circumstances surrounding the accident and the victims' deaths are still under investigation. The names have not been released.

Matheny commended the work of police and first responders for maintaining their professionalism under difficult circumstances.

Authorities are investigating a fatal accident in Harrison County.

According to dispatchers, a car went over an embankment into the river.
This happened at the intersection of Meadowbrook Road and Route 19.

The medical examiner has been called. The Harrison County Sheriff's Department is investigating. The Spelter and Lumberport fire departments also responded.
