Fire at historic Barbour County covered bridge ruled arson

BARBOUR COUNTY, W.Va. (WDTV)-- A fire that damaged the historic Carrollton Covered Bridge in Barbour County on Thursday has been ruled arson by the West Virginia Fire Marshal's Office.

According to investigators, someone intentionally set fire to the 160- year-old bridge.

The fire marshals' office said fires were also intentionally set at two small campsites near the bridge and they believe the fire at the bridge and the campsites are related.

The state Department of Transportation said it is inspecting the bridge and it is expected to be closed for several weeks.

No arrests have been made at this time.
