Jay's Day: Floating eggs

Can you tell how old an egg is by putting it in water with a little bit of salt?

Sometimes you buy eggs and forget how long you've had them. Well a fun science trick with density and eggs can show you just that.

With some water and a little bit of salt in a glass along with the eggs you want to check is all you need.

Add the egg to the water and salt solution. Depending on how much the egg is floating shows how old the egg is. The floating egg has to do with density, The fresher the egg the more dense it is. That means the egg will sink to the bottom of the glass.

If the egg starts to float it is less dense. How much the egg floats in the glass show how old the egg is. The closer it is to the surface the older and less dense the egg is.
