GLENVILLE, W.Va. (WDTV) - The Gilmer County Volunteer Fire Department welcomed the Richards family and the community for a hot meal to support a family member who has cancer, Sunday afternoon.
The cancer has returned for the second time on the man within the span of a 2 year period and he is being transported to Indiana to undergo further treatment. The dinner allowed family friends and the community to donate what they could toward medical expenses for the time he is out of work.
"It means a lot to me. I mean Gilmer County is a small county. But when there's somebody that's in need, they come out of the woodworks and they are amazing people," said organizer Don Shackleford.
Organizers invited friends and community members out throughout the rest of the evening,
"I was hoping it'd be a good turn out so I'm very pleased with what we've had turnout today and hopefully it'll finish up with a big crowd later on this afternoon." said Devin Shackleford.
The community filled up the fire station with support and donations for the family.
