Harrison County Mayor's Association tackles drug issues in the community

HARRISON COUNTY, W. Va. (WDTV) - As part of their meeting, sheriff Robert Matheny gave a presentation on fighting drug activity in the community, highlighting the work done by the Clarksburg community task force.

"It's all about community policing and community needs, so that's why I'm so excited about the community action team," said Sheriff Matheny

The sheriff says he hopes to expand the program.

"We have a limited amount of resources in the sheriff's office," said Sheriff Matheny "but we would make those resources available to a couple more areas in the county should they want to take part in that,"

The meeting was also former mayor Sam DeMarco's last and Cathy Goings was elected as the new president of the mayor's association.

The association also made plans to tour the newly renovated Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center.

The next mayor's association meeting will be held September 12th.
