Highland-Clarksburg Hospital offers family support program

HARRISON COUNTY, W. Va. (WDTV) - Addiction impacts not only the individual but also their family and friends.

Highland-Clarksburg Hospital's CRAFT program is designed to help families and spouses of those dealing with addiction learn problem-solving and communication skills.

CRAFT stands for community reinforcement and family training. Among the different strategies and techniques taught is motivational interviewing.

"Motivational interviewing is just a way that we can work with resistance and help our loved ones who are struggling with addiction without being in a power struggle, or creating more arguments," said Brianna Hardman a therapist and social worker with the hospital.

The hospital wants the group to be an opportunity for families to have a safe and anonymous space to connect with others going through the similar experiences.

"Here you're with people who have experienced similar things who you can connect with, and we're a non-judgemental space" said Hardman.

The CRAFT meetings are free and open to the public. They were held every Wednesday at 5 p.m.
