BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. (WDTV) -- The American Red Cross has released some safety tips as we head into the busiest travel time of the year. Millions of people are expected to travel over the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

If you are taking a road trip, make sure your car is prepared for the trip. Pack an emergency preparedness kit in the trunk and share your travel plans with friends or family. Before you leave, check the weather along your route.

As with any time you are on the road, make sure you are alert and following the rules of the road. If you happen to have any car trouble, be sure to pull off the road as far as possible.

There are some other things you can do to keep this holiday travel season a happy and healthy one.

Stop the spread of the flu and other germs by washing your hands frequently and carrying around hand sanitizer. Bringing your own pillows and blankets can also add an extra layer of protection for yourself.
