House Finance Committee approves 2% raise for teachers, police, personnel

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WDTV) -- The House of Delegates Finance Committee approved a modified version of a bill Wednesday that would give a raise to teachers, school service personnel and police officers a raise.

Officials say the modified bill would give teachers a 2% raise in the coming fiscal year, with 1% increases for the next 3 years. The original version of the bill had teachers receiving 1% raises for the next 5 years.

Police officers and school service personnel would receive a 2% increase for the fiscal year, followed by a 1% increase the next year. The original version of the bill had police and service personnel receiving 1% raises for both years.

The modified bill now goes to the House.

The Finance Committee also approved a separate bill which would give $6,000 raise to corrections personnel over the next three years.

Officials say funding for PEIA will be addressed when the Legislature passes the Fiscal Year 2019 budget.
