UPDATE: I-79 Northbound lanes reopened in Marion County after accident

According to Marion County officials, I-79 northbound at mile marker 138 has been reopened after lumber being carried by a semi-truck spilled in the roadway.

The accident occurred Thursday morning. Officials at the scene said a father and son were in the semi at the time of the accident and were taken to the hospital as a precaution. They say the driver said he hit a slick spot in the road, causing the accident. There is no word on the extent of any injuries they may have obtained.

For hours, traffic was rerouted off of the interstate due to clean up at the scene.

Officials say they hope to have I-79 northbound at mile marker 138 reopened within the next hour.

The roadway has been shut down since an accident Thursday morning that involved a semi-truck spilling lumber onto it.

According to Marion County 911 officials, I-79 northbound at mile marker 138 remains closed after an accident Thursday morning.

The accident occurred when logs being carried by a semi-truck spilled out of the truck and onto the roadway. No other vehicles were involved.

Two people were taken to the hospital. There is no word on the extent of any injuries.

The cleanup process continues along the northbound lanes of I-79 near mile marker 138.

According to officials on scene, a father and son were operating the semi truck, when the driver says he hit a slick spot. The investigation is still ongoing.

Both passengers were taken to the hospital just as a precaution.

One lane re-opened for a short period, however, it has since closed again. Expect delays when traveling in this area.

Officials hope to have the interstate re-opened by 10 a.m.

A portion of I-79 is shut down after an accident involving a semi truck in Marion County, early Thursday morning.

According to 911 dispatchers, the accident happened near the 138-mile marker in the northbound lanes. A semi carrying logs somehow spilled the logs on the highway. No other vehicles were involved.

Two people from the were taken to Fairmont Regional Medical Center. There’s no word on the extent of their injuries.

All northbound lanes near mile marker 138 are expected to be closed for hours while crews work to clean up.
