"I just couldn't believe it:" Community reacts to Nicewarner arrest

HARRISON COUNTY, W.Va (WDTV) - News of Joshua Nicewarner's arrest Friday gripped the Harrison County.

"I just couldn't believe it," said Ryan Leep, 15.

Nicewarner, 34, is accused of sending inappropriate pictures and videos to a 14-year-old girl, and then asking that she do the same.

Nicewarner, who's also a teacher at Liberty High School, is revered in Harrison County, having led Bridgeport High School to three state titles in three years.

Now, that reputation has been called into question.

"Someone like him--it just wouldn't cross my mind," Leep remarked.

The arrest Friday came just hours after police executed search warrants at Bridgeport High School's field house and at Liberty High School. According to detectives, the accuser's parents came forward with the allegations.

"It makes you really question who can you really trust--the people that your kids are around all time," said Jessica Jenkins, before adding, "Even if he's just accused, it still makes you think."

Nicewarner has been suspended without pay by the Harrison County School District. Dr. Mark Manchin will recommend his termination at next week's board meeting.
