Kate's Corner: Mint fireworks

By  |

BRIDGEPORT, W. Va (WDTV) - Around the Fourth of July, people fire off fireworks all the time.

In this Kate's Corner, we are going to fire off some but with just water and mints.

Here's what you'll need:
- Red and white striped mints
- White plate
- About 1/2 cup of water

So on a white plate place just one of these red and white striped mints. Then pour about half a cup of water on top of it. You'll notice the firework fires off immediately. Wait another minute or two and you'll see even more.

What's happening here?

Well the red stripes on the mint are made with food coloring and sugar. The water dissolves the sugar and the red spreads across the plate, creating the fireworks stripes.

Whether you're enjoying your mint fireworks or the real ones outdoors, have a wonderful 4th of July!
