Kate's Corner: Ocean in a bottle

BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. (WDTV) - In this edition of Kate's Corner we are making an ocean in a bottle without having to travel to the beach.

All you'll need is a clear bottle, water, blue food coloring, a funnel, and baby oil. You can use cooking oil if you already have that around the house. I just chose baby oil because it is clear.

Fill your bottle halfway with water. Add the blue coloring. This will be our water. Then with your funnel, fill the rest of the bottle up with the oil. Try to fill it up as much as possible.

Tightly screw the cap back on and turn the bottle over to its side. Gently move the bottle around and you'll see the waves start to move.

This is possible because the water and oil have different densities. Since the oil is less dense than the water, it floats on top.
