Kate's Corner: Zombie gummy worms

BRIDGEPORT, W. Va (WDTV) - This experiment involves more candy. We are going to make some zombie gummy worms because we are going to make them come back to life using science.

First thing I did was cut up some gummy worms into fourth. Let them thin gummy worms sit in a mixture of 1 cup of warm water and three tablespoons of baking soda. Now, I let them sit for 15 to 20 minutes I carefully took them out of the mixture and put them into a cup vinegar.

Bubbles quickly form around the worms and some even lift up and dance around.

Why did our gummy worms come back alive? Well, when you put the baking soda soaked worms and put them in the vinegar, you made a chemical reaction. The acetic acid in the vinegar and the bicarbonate in the baking soda react and create carbon dioxide bubbles that form on the worms. When they rise, the worm rise with them and look like they are brought back to life.
