MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV)- With the 2018 Legislative Session just around the corner, the Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce is reaching out to local business leaders to hear what they want addressed in the upcoming legislature.
On Wednesday morning, four elected officials gathered at the Morgantown Courtyard Marriott for an open discussion on concerns and ideas.
Many local employees say this type of open dialogue is crucial and helps them better serve their clients.
"It is really good for local businesses to be a part of any political discussion to really understand what the business climate is in the area," said Kimberly Coronel, the Director of Recruiting at Northwestern Mutual.
Officials say the main goal is to be an advocate for these companies and help them at the state, local and federal levels. However, in order to be successful in this, they need honest input from the business leaders in the area.
"Our main goal is to listen to what they have to say and try to implement as much as we can," said Delegate Dave Pathtel. "These seats actually belong to the people."
The purpose of the meeting was to get a better understanding of what local companies need prior to drafting the legislation. The focus is on advancing local businesses in the upcoming legislative year.
