Local firefighters receive extra training

GRANVILLE, W.Va. (WDTV) - After a 10 year absence, the WVU Fire Service Extension Fire School returned to Granville. The event offers firefighters an opportunity to brush up on their basics and pick up some new skills with hands on training. For many smaller departments, this is a chance that can be both hard to find and afford.

Mark Lambert, Director of Fire Services Extension at WVU, said, "A lot of firefighters get trained up to their minimums but they have no chance to get more advanced training so we're offering free advanced training for firefighters."

Nationwide, the number of people getting involved in the fire service is dropping. This makes it even more difficult for fire officials to maintain their operations.
