Local predictions: How far will WVU go in the NCAA Tournament?

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WDTV) - West Virginia will be a four seed in the NCAA Tournament and they're set for a date with Bucknell in the first round.

Last season, head coach Bob Huggins and company were bounced in the first round, losing to Stephen F. Austin.

So this year the hopes are high and we wanted to see how far some of you think the Mountaineers will go.

One person we spoke to said they can make it to at least the Sweet 16 and that they're press could help elevate them there. But, if they didn't make it that far it might be because they struggle from the free throw line.

"They should make it to at least the Sweet 16," said Danny Knight of Harrison County. "Their biggest upside is their press. They don't have a 'go-to-guy,' they need to shoot better from the floor (and) they don't even make their foul shots well."

Another person told us that they can go beyond the Sweet 16 and land in the Elite Eight. He too said their defense could help get them that far, but they may struggle if they fall behind early in any of the tournament games.

"I think they could at least make it to the Elite Eight and hopefully on to the Final Four" said Terry Hawkins, of Marion County. "Their biggest positive is their defense and I think they're biggest weakness is once they fall behind they panic a little."
