NUTTER FORT, W.Va. (WDTV) - Friday night, many of you are gathering for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Harrison County.
We were able to pay a visit to the event as well. Evening anchor Nicole Porter was there along with Chief Meteorologist Ken Meehan and our new Daybreak anchor Kyle Dawson.
The event started this evening and will go until early Saturday morning.
Relay for Life brings communities together in an effort to raise money and fight the battle against cancer.
Cancer survivors were recognized at the start of the event and they took the survivor's lap around the track.
When we talked with one of coordinators from the event, she told us the goal is to raise a lot of money, but she also said cancer has played a role in her life and that's why she dedicates her time and effort at events like these.
"The goal here to raise as much money as we can for cancer research," said Leslie Young, who is on the planning committee. "My grandmother had lung cancer several years ago and she was a survivor of lung cancer so that's what got me started in this event."
