Memorial service for U.S. Marine

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (WDTV)-- In Buckhannon Saturday, crowds gathered at Jawbone Park's Walk of Valour for a memorial service in honor of a former U.S. Marine who was killed in combat.

David Taylor II served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years reaching the rank of corporal before being honorably discharged and moved to the corps reserve in 2016.

In May, David voluntarily joined the People's Protection Unit, a U.S. led defense team known as the YPG that fights against the Islamic state in Syria.

On July 16th, David and three others were killed in combat. He was twenty-five years old. The young man was awarded and decorated with several medals.

David's family wants people to understand the sacrifice he made for his country and requests that any donations in his honor be made to post Seven American Legion in Buckhannon to go towards veteran-related services.

David will be remembered by many as a hero.
