MONONGALIA COUNTY, W. Va. (WDTV) -- Monongalia County Board of Education employees have voted to approve a vote of authorization, according to a press release.
This week, schools in the county took a vote which will allow the state unions to decide upon "a collective state-wide action." After all the ballots were tallied, 89 percent of employees voted in favor of the authorization.
According to leaders from AFT Mon County and the Mon County Education Association, the vote is to make sure lawmakers hear employees' concerns.
In the press release, it says the employees are fighting to stop the erosion of funds related to public education that directly impact student learning.
They also want to see a fix, and full funding, of PEIA. Employees would like a pay raise that makes the state competitive with surrounding states and they want lawmakers to "stop attacking teacher seniority."
