Morgantown woman indicted on heroin distribution charges

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WDTV) -- A Morgantown woman has been indicted on heroin trafficking charges, including distributing the drug near an elementary school.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Clarksburg, Lori Murphy, 28, has been charged with two counts of “Distribution of Heroin,” and two counts of “Distribution of Heroin within 1000 feet of Protected Location.” She is accused of distributing the drug twice near North Elementary School in 2017.

Murphy faces up to 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $2,000,000 for each count of “Distribution of Heroin within 1000 feet of Protected Location.” She also faces up to 20 in prison and a fine of up to $1,000,000 for the two counts of “Distribution of Heroin.”

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Mon Metro Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force investigated the case.
