Officials: Fire at vacant home in Fairmont considered 'suspicious'

FAIRMONT, W.Va (WDTV) - UPDATE 4:43 AM

Authorities on scene have confirmed that a fire at a vacant home in Fairmont is suspicious in nature.

The fire is believed to have started on the second floor and spread to the attic of the home near Walnut Avenue and 3rd Street.

While authorities believe it is suspicious in nature, arson is not believed to be the cause.

A firefighter was injured while battling the blaze. No other injuries were reported.

Fairmont Fire Department, Fairmont Police Department, the Marion County Rescue Squad responded to the scene.

Multiple fire crews are on the scene of a structure fire in Marion County.

According to 911 dispatchers, the fire was reported just after 3:30 am near Walnut Avenue and 3rd Street.

No word on any injuries at this time.
