NCWV Airport getting closer to having new carrier

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WDTV) - Last week we told you the North Central West Virginia Airport's Benedum Airport Authority endorsed SkyWest Airlines to be their next carrier.

And during Wednesday's meeting, the Air Service Development Committee endorsed the airline as well.

Now the authority will wait for the green light from the Department of Transportation. They need to approve of the choice before any agreement can be enter into.

So do officials anticipate them approving it?

"I think that they will. That's my anticipation. I can't speak for the Department of Transportation," said Rick Rock, Director of the NCWV Airport. "The Department of Transportation and people who are familiar with SkyWest know it's a tremendous airline."

But, what challenges does the authority and airport face when bringing in a new carrier? One thing the president of the authority told us, was regaining the public's trust.

The NCWV Airport has had a string of unreliable carriers, included their last one, ViaAir, who they did away with not too long ago.

"Over the years we really haven't had good luck with a carrier that we felt very comfortable with," said Ron Watson, President of the Authority. "This time we did a little more diligence in our operation."
