NOW: DOT approves SkyWest for CKB

Skywest Airlines

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WDTV) -- The Benedum Airport Authority announced Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Transportation has selected SkyWest Airlines to be North Central West Virginia Airport’s new Essential Air Service.

The airline will provide daily flights to Washington Dulles (IAD) to Chicago O’Hare (ORD). The flights will be on a 50-seat Canadair Regional jet.

SkyWest is headquartered in St. George, Utah and operates in partnership with United Airlines. SkyWest will be marketed as United Express, and will provide full access to the United Network, which includes baggage transfers and connections.

"This is an extremely exciting time for our region. CKB staff will work diligently with SkyWest to select an inaugural start date for the service which minimizes the delay,” said Airport Director, Rick Rock.

An official start date for the flights is expected in the coming weeks.
