Morgantown W. V.a. (WDTV)--- Once a Mountaineer Always a Mountaineer.. a saying that is anything but false. A day of play on Saturday brought back former WVU athletes and current NFL players to have a day of fun and teach health tips to the community.
Former WVU football player and now Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Wendell Smallwood appreciates the day of play program.
"It just feels good to see the kids, some of them still have the gloves we gave them after the game wristbands just to see how much they look up to us." Smallwood said.
The day consist of over 200 kids playing at different stations with all athletes and learning tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. For one day of play mom, this program is more than just about fun games it's about the Mountaineer community as a whole.
"It's just a prime example of our community once you're a part of it it's home. It's always going to be a part of your heart. So I think it's great that the athletes, even though they may not be from Morgantown, or West Virginia necessarily Morgantown is always still part of them," said Sarah Bergstrom.
There were over eight WVU current and former athletes that participated in this years event.
