Alumni from Doddridge County, Elkins high schools compete to be next Mountaineer Mascot

HARRISON COUNTY, W.Va. (WDTV) -- Two local WVU students are finalists in the running to be West Virginia University's next Mountaineer Mascot.

Trevor Kiess is an alumnus of Elkins High School, and is currently a senior accounting major minoring in pre-law and legal studies at WVU. He is also the current alternate Mountaineer Mascot.

Jesse Lackey is an alumnus of Doddridge County High School, and is currently a senior secondary education and English major at WVU.

The other two finalists are Troy Salatino, a sophomore secondary education and history major from Wheeling, and Timothy Eads, a freshman majoring in strategic communications from Buffalo.

Kiess, Lackey, Salatino, and Eads will don the buckskin uniform and carry the musket on February 12 during the men’s basketball game against Texas Christian University at 9 p.m. in the WVU Coliseum.

The winner will be announced by the selection committee at the men’s basketball game against Iowa State on February 24. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.
