Senate Finance amends pay raise bill to 4 percent

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WDTV)-- The Senate Finance Committee just voted to move the teacher pay raise bill out of committee with a 4 percent raise instead of a 5 percent raise for teachers.

The vote was 9-8. The amended House Bill will now go to the floor of the Senate. Union leaders said they are speaking with Senators now, but the strike will continue if the teacher pay raise amendment is approved by the Senate.

The Senate Finance is recommending the full Senate pass the amendment to decrease teacher, service personnel, and state police to a 4 percent raise. The raise for other public employees would have to come in a budget bill.
