BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. (WDTV) - 'Watches' mean that conditions are favorable for the development of severe weather. Depending on the degree, a watch may be issued.

The main criteria for severe thunderstorms are wind gusts over 55mph and hail of 1.00" in diameter or greater or a tornado. If storms could also include tornadoes, that would lead to the issuance of a Tornado Watch.
