BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WDTV) - With the wet and near-freezing weather conditions, there are a few things drivers need to keep in mind during the holiday.

Lieutenant Keith Linger shared, "Everybody just needs to slow down. Be aware of your surroundings. If the roads are wet they can freeze and pay attention."

Here are some additional tips we've put together to keep you safe this weekend, as well as this winter:

-Connect your phone to Bluetooth to avoid distractions while you are driving

-Make sure your windshield is cleared off before you take off

-Leave earlier than you normally would

-Have blankets and a flashlight in your vehicle and avoid speeding
