FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WDTV) - Noteworthy Sweets is located in the historic Crawford building on the corner of Fairmont Avenue and First Street. The charming little cafe and bakery opened it's doors in 2010.
"We do everything here from scratch. We don't do prepackaged foods or fry anything," Hoffmaster said.
She continued, "I just want people to know that they can eat healthy or natural without spending a lot of money."
Owner Gwen Hoffmaster, a self-taught chef, has always had a love for cooking.
"My mother was a very good cook and I spent a lot of time with my grandmother, who put three meals on the table each day. I also watched cooking shows; I loved to watch Julia Child."
Each day, Gwen and her team bake fresh bread, cookies, cakes and pies. In addition to pastries, the cafe hosts breakfast and lunch. the lunch menu changes daily, so customers can always look forward to something new.
Hoffmaster wants her customers to experience fresh, home-made recipes.
"If you don't open a box, a lot of people don't know what real food tastes like. If you have good, fresh ingredients, you really can't go wrong."
While the food may be what attracts people to the cafe, the friendly service and homey atmosphere is what makes them return.
"We're a refueling station for body and soul."
