Tasty Tuesday: National Pancake Day

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WDTV) - "I love pancakes!"

In celebration of National Pancake Day, IHOP gave away free, short stacks of pancakes.

"I had chocolate pancakes and sausage," said Matthew Stalknaker

"We got chocolate chip pancakes," said Kalli Lindsey.

But those free pancakes have a purpose. The restaurant was collecting donations for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. All of the money raised from West Virginia IHOPs will go to WVU Medicine Children's.

"It's really important to let the community know that their money is going to a good cause and it's going to stay local," said Miss Rhododendron, Hannah Prince.

"We're raising money for the children in need of medicine and for their other hospital necessities," said the general manager of the Bridgeport IHOP, Michael Mercandante.

Customers who donated had the chance to receive different gifts like coupons, t-shirts, and other prizes. There was also a basket raffle and activities for kids.

"It's important to let every kid have hope that they can still have a good life," said Lindsey.

"There's so many children that need help that are in the hospital, so you need to make a generous donation. We actually made an extra donation of $100 because this is an important cause," said Cathy Reed.

For one young man, the day was a way to help a friend.

"My friend Jensen had heart cancer and had lots of surgeries on his heart and I wanted to donate for him," said Gage Lindsey.

While pancakes are sweet, giving back to local kids in need is even sweeter.

"It really shows the power of the community, especially here in Bridgeport, of all of us coming together for a great cause and it feels amazing," said Mercandante.
