CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WDTV) -- UPDATE 8/10/18
Judge Paul T. Farrell was sworn in as a justice on the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals Friday morning.

The court announced Thursday that Chief Justice Margaret Workman appointed Farrell to begin service when the new term begins in September, as Justice Allen Loughry is suspended.

Farrell was appointed to serve in the Sixth Judicial Circuit by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin in 2011 and was elected to the position in 2012. Previously, Farrell practiced law for fifteen years at Farrell, Farrell, & Farrell, PLLC.

Farrell's appointment to the court comes as the House evaluates impeachment articles on Chief Justice Workman, as well as Justice Loughry, Justice Davis, and Justice Walker after an investigation into malpractice and criminal practices by the one or more of the justices.

Justice Ketchum resigned in July.

“Court employees have received many inquiries about whether the work of the Court will continue as scheduled in the term that begins Sept. 5. It will. The Court calendar is set and the docket will proceed as usual,” Workman stated Thursday.
