The benefits of letting kids dress themselves

MOMSEVERYDAY -- Morning battles with your preschooler about what they’re going to wear can be an exhausting way start to the day. Rather than fighting over that sparkly princess dress or the same old Spiderman sweater, allowing your child to make their own choices can be helpful for their development -- and your sanity.

If you’re uncomfortable giving them total control, offer a few choices and let them make the final decision. Keep in mind that there are certain fabrics or garments they don’t like. Allow them to have their own likes and dislikes.

When it comes to getting dressed, encourage children to do it by themselves. Now this can be a test of patience, just watching your little one struggle to put on their socks, but completing simple tasks help boost their fine motor skills. It will also give them confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
