Bingaya named MEC male athlete of the year

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State's Matt Bingaya has been selected as the Mountain East Conference Male Athlete of the Year for 2016-17.

Bingaya helped lead the Falcons to a 34-3 record an appearance in the NCAA Division II championship game. He paced FSU with 19.0 points and 7.1 rebounds on his way to earning MEC and Atlantic Region Player of the Year recognition. Bingaya was a consensus first team All-America selection and a finalist for the Bevo Francis Award recognizing the top player in "small college" basketball.

A two-time first team All-MEC selection, Bingaya scored 1,229 points and pulled down 455 rebounds in his FSU career.

The MEC Male Athlete of the Year is selected by a vote of institutional administrators and the conference office.
