Black Bears strikeout 15 times, Scrappers trim WV division lead to 1

GRANVILLE, W.VA (WDTV) - (Black Bears game release):

GRANVILLE, WV – The West Virginia Black Bears were defeated 2-1 by the Mahoning Valley Scrappers Saturday night. Black Bears’ starter Sergio Cubilete took the loss in the game but pitched well. He struck out eight batters and only gave up two runs on three hits in six innings.

The Scrappers found their way on the scoreboard in the third inning. With the bases loaded, Ulysses Cantu reached first on a fielding error by Robbie Glendinning, which allowed two runners to cross home.

The Black Bears offense showed signs of life in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brett Pope lined a double to left field and was brought home on an RBI single by Chris Sharpe.

Pope and Sharpe paced the Black Bears with two hits apiece in the ball game. The Black Bears (33-24) will take on the Scrappers (31-24) tomorrow afternoon at 4:05 PM.
