Black Bears surrender six runs in the sixth, fall 7-2

GRANVILLE, W.Va. (WDTV) - (Black Bears Release)

The West Virginia Black Bears were defeated 7-2 by the State College Spikes on Thursday evening.

The Spikes took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and the Black Bears did not respond with a run of their own until the third inning.

Deon Stafford Jr. tied the game with a RBI single to left field. Stafford Jr. gave the Black Bears a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth with another RBI single to left field.

State College unleashed a six-run inning in the sixth inning to take the lead back from West Virginia. With two outs, the Spikes scored six runs off five straight base hits in the inning.

Stafford Jr. and Raul Siri lead the Black Bears with two hits each in the game. Sergio Cubilete dropped to (2-3) in the Black Bears loss.

West Virginia (25-18) will take on State College (26-17) Friday for the final game of the series at 7:05.
