BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WDTV) - Monday night, the best of the best in Harrison County high school football will be highlighted during the annual Frank Loria Awards Banquet at the Bridgeport Conference Center.
The banquet celebrates and honors the late, Harrison County Native, Frank Loria. Loria was an All-American at Virginia Tech University in 1966 and a First Consensus All-American in 67'-- this included Academic All-American honors as well.
Loria also coached at Marshall University. He tragically passed away at the age of 23 during the 1970 plane crash that killed nearly the entire Marshall football team.
Student-athletes and coaches in Harrison County will be honored for both athletic and academic achievements. Officials say this is something truly special to the community.
"This is really such a great event not only for the community, but for the young student-athletes that we honor every year," said Mike Romano\, Chairman of the Banquet.
