GRANVILLE, W.VA (WDTV) - (Black Bears game release):

GRANVILLE, WV – The West Virginia Black Bears were defeated 3-2 Wednesday evening by the State College Spikes.

Tonight’s game featured a 2017 New York Penn-League All-Star on the mound for each side. Ike Schlabach of the Black Bears faced off against the Spikes’ ace Andrew Summerville. Schlabach tossed six scoreless innings, allowing only two hits while Summerville also threw six innings and allowed only one earned run.

With the bases loaded in the first, Spikes pitcher Andrew Summerville hit Lucas Tancas and walked in a run. West Virginia were unable to take advantage of the bases loaded situation and did not score any more runs in the inning. The Black Bears took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Sandy Santos reached first on a throwing error, which allowed Robbie Glendinning to cross home plate.

J.D. Crowe put the Spikes on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh with an RBI single to centerfield. The Spikes tied the game 2-2 in the top of the eighth inning when Bryce Denton drove in a run with a line drive to left field. State College scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning when Joe Gomez knocked in a run with a double to centerfield.

The Black Bears (35-33) will travel to Auburn, New York to begin a three-game series with the Doubledays (37-31) tomorrow.
